The Hill Family

Kelsey, Lana & Derek Hill
Length of Stay:
64 Nights
Hometown: Stevensville, ON

Kelsey was the youngest member of our family and the centre of everyone’s world but on September 15, 2010 our lives were forever changed when a malignant tumour was discovered on Kelsey’s brain stem.

24 hours later Kelsey was on the operating table at McMaster Children’s Hospital. Kelsey’s condition was worse than the doctors had hoped for and she would remain in the ICU to recover for several days. This is when a nurse suggested we visit Ronald McDonald House Charities® South Central Ontario (RMHC®SCO), less than a block away.

I was immediately taken aback by how much RMHCSCO felt like a real home. We were able to spend time with Kelsey at the hospital and then head back to the House to take a warm shower, eat a hot meal and get some sleep before returning back to her side as soon as possible. We celebrated Kelsey’s 12th Birthday at the House and were able to make it a real family affair at our new home away from home.

Kelsey’s tumor was aggressive and after six months of chemotherapy treatment and new cutting edge radiation methods the cancer got the best of her and we lost our little girl. Kelsey’s legacy continues to live on through the Kelsey’s Nights of Comfort Foundation supporting families at RMHCSCO.

In honour of Kelsey Hill, Team Kelsey fundraises to ensure there is a fund in place should a family at RMHCSCO ever have the inability to pay for their stay.

Please consider making a donation to this fund to help keep families close.
