Making a Planned Gift
Leave a lasting legacy by making a planned gift - ensure that future generations of families in need will receive comfort and care during their most challenging times.
If Planned Giving is something that you are interested in, we recommend that you consult with a professional advisor or legal professional who will assist you in your estate planning wishes.
By including a Planned or Legacy Gift in your estate plan, you will help RMHC®SCO care for future families without affecting your income today.
Giving to RMHC®SCO
Recent amendments to Canada’s tax laws provide individuals with many Planned or Legacy Giving opportunities including a Bequest in your Will, a gift of a Registered Retirement Fund and a gift of Life Insurance or a Charitable Gift Annuity.
-
Establish a Bequest in Your Will
Wills are the central pillar of estate planning. Upon your passing, your estate will receive a tax receipt equal to the value of your bequest. If you are considering a gift by Will, consult with a professional advisor or legal professional who will assist you in your estate planning wishes.
Amending your Will can be as simple as creating a notarized letter (called a codicil) that is attached to your current Will and outlines your intention to donate a portion of your estate to RMHC®SCO.
-
Give Registered Retirement Funds
By donating retirement savings plans or funds (RRSP/RRIF) you can support RMHC®SCO after your needs, and those of your loved ones, have already been met.
You can avoid estate fees by designating RMHC®SCO as the beneficiary of your retirement savings on your registered documents.
Your estate will receive a tax receipt for the value of the investment at the time of your death which can be applied towards the estate’s final income tax return.
-
Give the Gift of Life Insurance
A cost-effective way to create a significant investment in RMHC®SCO is by gifting a life insurance policy to the House. Such gifts can be made by:
Transferring the ownership of a new or existing policy to RMHC®SCO, you will then receive an annual tax receipt for premiums paid after the date of transfer.
Naming RMHC®SCO as the beneficiary of your policy will result in a tax credit upon your passing - this will reduce your estate taxes and increase the after-tax value of your estate for other beneficiaries.
Sustainability Giving
Sustainability gifts are pledges made by individuals or organizations who are committing to a financial contribution year over year.
These gifts fund the operation of the House and our programs and we are proud to report that 90 cents of every dollar raised goes directly to supporting our families.
